“populous” - adjective pop·u·lous | \ ˈpä-pyə-ləs  1a: densely populated b: having a large population 2a: NUMEROUS b: filled to capacity

“populus” - a genus of flowering plants in the willow family with around 25 species, Aspen is a common name for certain tree species; classified by botanists in the section Populus, of the Populus  genus. Aspen is noted for its ability to regenerate vegetatively by shoots and suckers arising along its long lateral roots. Root sprouting results in many identical trees, in aggregate called a "clone". All the trees in a clone share a root structure. Aspen clones can be less than an acre and up to 100 acres in size.

The largest and oldest known aspen clone is the "Pando" clone on the Fishlake National Forest in southern Utah. Also known as the “Trembling Giant”, it is a clonal colony of an individual male quaking aspen determined to be a single living organism and hAS one massive underground root system. It is over 100 acres in size and weighs more than 14 million pounds. That is more than 40 times the weight of the largest animal, a blue whale. It has been aged at 80,000 years

Hi, I’m Joe Recsnik. I’m a licensed acupuncturist, herbalist, herbal pharmacist, and founder of POPULUSS Classical Eastern Healing.

I was born in St Louis, Missouri and have also lived in Northern Virginia and Dallas, Texas. I received my undergraduate degree in Recording Arts from Loyola Marymount University and worked in the music industry at Record Plant Recording Studios prior to becoming an acupuncturist.

I discovered the power of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine in my 20’s when I began receiving regular acupuncture and taking herbs to address my severe asthma condition. After regular treatment, I was eventually able to stop using my asthma inhaler and medication completely! From that point I was hooked, and would soon re-enroll in school to undertake my life long study of classical Chinese medicine.

In 2006 I received my Master of Traditional Oriental Medicine degree from Emperor’s College in Santa Monica, CA and have been a licensed acupuncturist in California since 2007.

In 2013 received my Diploma in Canonical Chinese Medicine ® (DCCM) from the Institute of Classics in East Asian Medicine ®. Canonical Chinese Medicine is a style of Chinese medicine practiced along the tenets outlined in the manuscripts of the Han dynasty (circa 200 B.C.E.), also known as canons. Under the tutelage or my teacher Arnaud Versluys Ph.D., MD, L.Ac, (lineage holder of the Tian-Zeng lineage), I have received extensive and advanced training in pulse and abdominal diagnosis techniques which make this system one of the most pragmatic and advanced styles of herbalism.  I am committed to continually expanding my own knowledge and skills as a practitioner through perpetual learning and study.

I have also served as a professor in the Department of Traditional Asian Medicine at Life University in Gardena, CA,  and as an instructor of Tai Chi Chuan at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.

I treat a wide variety of ailments in my clinic utilizing acupuncture, cupping, gua sha, moxibustion, and prescription of customized Chinese herbal medicine formulas. I specialize in treating women’s health, infertility, migraine headaches, orthopedic and sports related injuries, and digestive and dermatological disorders.

I also operate a comprehensive Chinese herbal pharmacy that compounds customized herbal medicine for patients and other licensed practitioners.

My driving force as a practitioner has always been being of service to my community; supporting the physical and mental-emotional wellbeing of others and helping to alleviate their suffering and dis-ease. I provide holistic, patient-centered and culturally sensitive care, and am guided by a deep commitment to inclusivity, respect, and supporting a diverse patient population.

In my free time I enjoy playing guitar, visiting art galleries and museums, hanging with my two kids, soaking up the outdoors, and generally enjoying all the cultural richness and diversity Los Angeles has to offer.
